Walking Biannualy

From across the county, by train and creeping motorway,
The Watsan walkers come to walk, as they do biannualy.

This is where the great man came to find his inspiration,
Our motivation, no less poetic, is water and sanitation.

And did those feet in ancient times climb Will's Neck and Cothelstone?
Did he at Fyne Court eat his lunch and experience electrocution?

At freshly painted Roborough Fort did he write a eulogy?
And rest his feet at the village hall with cake and a cup of tea.

Musing aside, there is a serious note to this Quantock hill top gander,
As we walk in step with our partners and friends in NKKD Uganda.

Don't Touch Me

Reaching out, my hands hover.
Like opposing magnets, your eyes hold me back.

You know the deal; mine is a sympathetic suffering,
It is your extra load - inevitable, like V.A.T.

We see the path before you,
The one you tread carefully.

Being with you is natural,
Behind you. holding onto your belt.

It's easy to be here.
Sometimes I have to decide not to.

That's the way it is.

What's in a name?

Our friends Bob and Luana were married yesterday.  Wonderful.  They are expecting their child in August.  It is tradition for someone to change their name at the wedding.  This happened yesterday, but not in the expected way.  Our friend Bob was the one to change his name.  He changed it to 'Robert'.  It will take some getting used to.   Luana is a Venezuelan, Spanish speaking Italian, and apparently 'Bob' isn't very nice.  In Leicester it is also slang for pooh, but in Leicester we are quite affectionate about the mundane things in life.

If you can cut the cake together successfully...

When Luana's friend took the microphone and started singing in
Spanish, the party took off.

They stole the show

Debora, Luana's sister's translation was impressive and entertaining.

Bob's speech was tremendous.  I loved the bit about when they first met.

A Church, or a factory?  This is Coventry- Build circa 1968

Quantum Mechanics and Ornithology

My thoughts originate from a meeting with an exceptional nine year old boy from Coalville.

We met to discuss how he is able to control overwhelming feelings of panic.  I asked him what he wanted to work on first.  He said "can you help me with 'climate change and brexit' first?

He also introduced into our conversation his understanding of the 'normal distribution curve', and 'Schrodinger's Cat'.

So I've been thinking about Schrodinger's Cat

This is the cat that is in two opposite states at the same time.  How can something be left and right at the same time? Dead and Alive?

Here are some other examples.

The Blackbird- It can be Brown and Black at the same time. (joined closely by the Blackcap.)

What about the 'Peacock'.  Here is a bird who is divided by it's gender.  What is the family name of the Peacock?  I guess it might be Mr and Mrs Pea cock-hen (or Mrs and Mr Pea Hen-Cock.).  Perhaps this is the origin of the name Hancock?

As You Like It?

Premiered at Wilton House in 1603?
Pits scheming power politics against 'A Tree'.

The 'Court', wrestles rank, with ruthless expulsion,
To Arden, Bin Laden, or was it to Belgium?

The Forest, blurred boundaries, a good place to hide,
In an intriguing depiction of the Urban - Rural divide.

Love's nature, a name? a gender? a body?
Mock 'court', - 'marriage',  - 'religion', all's folly.

Take heart from Jacques, s/he remains unphased,
Nothing has substance, as it's all been staged.
