Theo outside the dancing House |
It's a must to visit Prague when in the Czech Republic,
And having a Czech speaking cousin is the next important trick.
Theo journeyed from Brno to meet us at the airport,
Immediately handing us travel tickets which was a nice thought.
Travelling in Prague is simple, and it's even got a metro,
Though it's by time, not distance that you pay to go.

Getting into our Prague Apartment |
Visiting the New Town Hall (looks like the Old.) |
This is the chancel of a once imagined, and never build 'great' abbey. |
"Touche" One crisp on a stick. |
Old Town Square, looking at the 'Hussite Church'. |
A famous view. The house right in front of the Cathedral is the French Embassy.
What's it doing there? |
Our river trip. Interestingly the tour never mentioned the Parliament
Building, which is the place on the opposite bank.
Czechs tend to be very cynical about politics. |
Wenceslas on his horse. |
The other Wenceslas statue. |
Smetena Museum and old town.
(Smetena means cream, but I don't think this is a dairy museum.) |
Charles Bridge from the river. |
On the bridge. (We did the Charles Bridge shuffle.) |
The jolly troop. |
View from the observatory. |
Segways are all the rage in Prague. |

Theo felt the National Museum was an embarrassment. |
Nothing to do with me! |

Bohemian Paradise |
Joanna, rock hopping. |
Theo in his natural element. |
Pardubice, where we stopped on the way to Brno,
to eat pizza in the piazza |
Pardubice Castle- (Envelopes means Renaissance.) |
An advert for Starobrno- the local beer. It's full of local meaning. |
Villa Tugendhat. 1930's modernist masterpiece by Mies Van Der Rohe. |
Introducing Jana- Our only genuine Czech friend. |
We all enjoyed getting our shoes automatically
wrapped in plastic for Tugendhat |
Jana and Theo take us climbing. |
At last, back in Brno, and the sacred Czech drink Kofola. |
Joanna with a new friend |
Elizabeth gets her museum too (dragons). |
Theo's flat is on the fifth floor. |

On the battlements |
The centre of Brno. A city mixing many architectural styles. |
A day trip to Vienna. |
We climbed to the top of Karls Kirche Dome. |
Mum and Dad |
Farewell Czech |
Vienna looks every inch an imperial capital. Except the Heiliges Roman
ReplyDeleteEmpire is gone. Unless you count the economic clout of the German-speaking
countries. Take Czech for example. Probably even that staroldie Brno beer
with the dragon eating Birk's wheel from the town hall is owned by Becks
or Loewenbrau or the like.
