I recorded these words from the mouth of Mosako - he told me not
to regard them, saying nothing said is ever original. But I cherish his
thoughts, and carry them with me.
"It's always the good who feel rotten. Pleasure's for those
who are bad."
"When people are pure, laws are useless: when people are
corrupt, laws are broken."
"Human blunders usually do more to shape history than human
wickedness."
"The danger of success is that it makes us forget the world's
dreadful injustice."
"We seldom confide in those who are better than ourselves."
"It is as absurd to argue people, as to torture them, into
believing."
"You can only predict things after they've happened."
"Every instant of time is a pinprick of eternity. All things
are petty, easily changed, vanishing away."
"Our childhood goes back thousands of years, further back
than the memory of any race."
"Experience dulls the edges of all our dogmas."
"It is often safer to be in chains than to be free."
"I prefer people who chop off heads to people who celebrate
people who chop off heads."
"Most people are within a fingers breath of being mad."
"You can make a throne from bayonets, but you can't sit on it
for long."
"It is a good rule of life never to apologies. The right sort
of people do not want apologies, and the wrong sort take mean advantage of
them."
"Everyone threw the blame on me. I have notice that they
nearly always do. I suppose it is because they think I shall be able to bear it
best."
"If someone told me I would have been spiritual leader one
day, I would have studied harder."
"A day without laughter is a day wasted."
"Only freedom can make security secure."
"Conscience: the inner voice that warns us than someone
may be looking."
"A knowledgeable fool is a greater fool than an
ignorant fool."
"It's easier to make a person confess the lies s/he tells to
her/himself; it's far harder to make him/her confess the truth."
"It is necessary only for good people to do nothing for evil
to triumph."
"The reward for conformity is that everyone will like you
except yourself."
"Unless one is a genius, it is best to aim at being
unintelligible."
"One person with courage is a majority."
"A liberal is a person too broad minded to take his own side
in a quarrel."
"History gets thicker as it approaches recent times."
"Science must begin with myths, and with the criticism of
myths."
"Discovery consists of seeing what everyone has seen and
thinking what nobody else has thought."
"There has never been an angry person who thought her/his
anger unjust."
"The heart of man is made to reconcile the most glaring
contradictions."
"A person is happy so long as s/he chooses to be happy, and
nothing can stop him/her."
"I think that knowing what you cannot do is more important
than knowing what you can do."
"In dreams begins responsibility."
"Nothing happens to any person that s/he is not formed by
nature to bear."
"The shortest way to do many things is to do only one thing
once."
"What is life without a dream?"
"There is no duty we so much underrated as the duty of being
happy."
"I am a person. I count nothing human foreign to me."
"A really intelligent person feels what other people only
know."
"There was never a good war, or a bad peace."
"Total understanding makes one very indulgent."
"Military justice is to justice what military music is to
music."
"It's seldom that any liberty is lost all at once."
