Twenty Three and Counting - Unbearable words

The Rose Window of Bourges Cathedral
(from rosewindow.com)

Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse! The one sitting on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he judges and makes war. His eyes are like a flame of fire, and on his head are many diadems, and he has a name written that no one knows but himself. He is clothed in a robe dipped in blood, and the name by which he is called is The Word of God. And the armies of heaven, arrayed in fine linen, white and pure, were following him on white horses. From his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations, and he will rule them with a rod of iron. He will tread the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty. Revelation 19:11-21

·      It is very difficult to avoid the terrible words that come with the end times.  It is a sad fact that all societies seem to experience a cycle of (male lead) violence.   Most countries in the world have experienced significant wars within the last 100 years.  Switzerland and Sweden are exceptions in Europe.  But Switzerland is one of the few countries in Europe to still require conscription of young males into the army.    The power we read about in the bible is never straightforward.  Jericho's wall fell at a trumpet blast.  Violence seems to be intrinsic to the fabric of this world.

My thought is that just as we have the freedom to sin, so to the Lord has the power to crush, but this is not what he is about.  The rod of iron is present, but it is not used as we might use it.

Through the disaster comes hope.  There is power in The Word.  This is expressed in art, in music and creativity.  These are such fragile things.  They are banned in many societies.  Too dangerous.

One more day until all this mess is sorted out!
